KVNO Statement on Racial Justice
KVNO Statement on Racial Justice
As a classical music radio station, KVNO seeks to foster understanding of the role music has played throughout history's difficult moments and its power to heal and to bridge divides between people. We cannot remain silent in this pivotal moment in the history of our nation and our community. KVNO upholds the dignity of African Americans who have been marginalized for far too long, and joins in the effort to ensure that the Black community and all minorities share equally in the economic, social, political, legal and artistic opportunities Omaha and our nation offer. We understand our role of providing enduring music that has withstood the test of time, while acknowledging the marginalization of people of color in the artistic world over the centuries when minority composers and musicians were ignored, when they were denied venues in which to perform, when they could not eat in the venues that hired them to play, and when they could not stay in the same hotels as their white colleagues. We hope to be part of the growing effort to create a spirit of understanding among people here and across the nation, and to provide a peaceful space when people need a moment to meditate and take some time for themselves.
